Living in Buġibba & Qawra
Touristy north — seasonal work and cheaper summer rent
Practical guidance
Buġibba and Qawra sit on the northern coast of Malta in the St Paul's Bay area. These are tourist-heavy areas with many hotels, self-catering apartments, and seasonal hospitality work.
Character & Vibe
Touristy and seasonal. Busy in summer, quieter in winter. The waterfront is lined with restaurants and bars. Inland streets are more residential. It feels different from the central Sliema/St Julian's corridor.
Transport & Getting Around
Buses connect to Valletta (about 45–60 minutes depending on traffic). Less frequent off-season. Having a car or relying on Bolt is helpful here. Not walkable to the central areas.
Community & TCN Presence
Seasonal hospitality workers from many nationalities. Smaller year-round TCN community compared to Sliema or Ħamrun. Some long-term residents appreciate the lower cost and seaside setting.
