About

What is MaltaPathway?

A free, practical resource for third-country nationals navigating Malta's immigration system — work permits, family routes, and long-term residence.

Why this exists

Malta's immigration rules for third-country nationals have changed significantly in the past two years — mandatory pre-departure courses, new Skills Pass requirements, shifting I Belong programme rules. Official information is scattered, often PDF-only, and rarely written for people who aren't already familiar with immigration terminology.

MaltaPathway pulls together what's known from official sources, puts it in plain English, and cites every claim so you can verify it yourself. Where sources conflict or rules are unclear, we say so explicitly rather than pretending there's a clean answer.

What MaltaPathway is NOT

  • ×Not a law firm or legal advisor. Nothing here is legal advice. For your specific situation, consult a licensed immigration lawyer or official government sources.
  • ×Not affiliated with the Maltese government. We are an independent platform. We have no authority over permit decisions.
  • ×Not a guarantee. Immigration rules change. Always verify current requirements with Identità Malta or Jobsplus before submitting any application.

How it works

1

Free guides with source notes

Every factual claim links to an official source — government websites, EU directives, or official correspondence. When something is uncertain, we label it clearly.

2

Study Hub for the pre-departure course

The mandatory pre-departure orientation course (required since March 2026) covers specific topics. Our free Study Hub has flashcards and quizzes based on those published topics, so you can arrive confident.

3

Your personalised pathway

Answer a few questions about your situation and we match you to the right route — Single Permit, Family Reunification, Long-Term Residence — with a checklist of steps ordered by what actually needs to happen first.

Who is this for?

MaltaPathway is written primarily for:

  • Third-country nationals applying for a Malta Single Permit for the first time
  • Workers in tourism and hospitality who also need the Skills Pass
  • People bringing family members to Malta via Reunification or the Family Members Policy
  • Long-term residents preparing for LTR status and the I Belong programme
  • Employers and HR teams navigating applications on behalf of staff
