Single Permit
A combined work and residence authorisation issued by Identità Malta for third-country nationals employed in Malta.
The Single Permit is the primary residence and work authorisation for third-country nationals (non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals) employed in Malta. It replaces the old separate work permit and residence permit with a single document.
Applications are submitted through the employer to Identità Malta's Expatriates Unit. Once approved, the permit is valid for the duration of the employment contract, up to a maximum of two years, and can be renewed.
Since 1 March 2026, all first-time Single Permit applicants must complete the pre-departure orientation course before their permit is issued.
