Permit Renewal
The process of extending your Single Permit before it expires, typically started at least 3 months in advance.
Permit renewal is the process of extending your Single Permit for a further period. You must apply before your current permit expires — Identità Malta recommends starting at least 3 months before the expiry date.
The renewal application is submitted by your employer through the same system used for the initial application. Since 2026, permit renewals may also require completion of an in-country orientation course, depending on the permit type and sector.
If your permit expires before the renewal is processed, you may be in an irregular situation. Always start early and keep documentation of your submitted application.
