Emergency Contacts & Key Numbers in Malta

Save these numbers before you arrive

Practical guidance

Processes, costs, and providers may change. This page reflects conditions in early 2026 — always confirm details with the relevant authority or provider.

Keep these numbers on your phone from day one. In an emergency, 112 is the number that works everywhere in the EU — including Malta. Here are all the critical contacts for a third-country national worker.

Emergency Numbers

112 — EU-wide emergency (police, fire, ambulance). 196 — Malta Police general emergency. 199 — Fire & Rescue. +356 2545 0000 — Mater Dei Hospital. These should be saved in your phone contacts.

Government Services

+356 2590 4800 — Identità Malta helpline. +356 153 — Social welfare helpline. servizz.gov.mt — Online government services portal. Identità Malta office (Hal Far, Malta) handles all permits, Entitlement Cards, and residence matters.

Worker Rights & Support

+356 2122 6681 — Department of Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER). DIER handles complaints about employment conditions, unpaid wages, and worker exploitation. You do not need a lawyer to file a complaint — walk in or call.

If You Are in Danger

If you are being exploited, threatened, or held against your will: call 112 immediately. Victim support: +356 2295 6000 (Victim Support Malta). If your employer has taken your passport — this is illegal. Contact the police or DIER.
