Family Reunification

The formal EU-framework route for bringing family members to Malta, requiring stable resources and accommodation.

Family Reunification is the EU-harmonised legal framework (Council Directive 2003/86/EC), transposed into Maltese law, that allows third-country nationals with a valid residence permit to bring qualifying family members (spouse, minor children) to join them in Malta.

Requirements include holding a permit valid for at least one year, demonstrating stable and regular resources, adequate accommodation, and health insurance. There is a mandatory 12-month waiting period from the date the sponsor's permit is issued.

Family Reunification is distinct from Malta's own Family Members Policy. The two routes have different requirements, processing times, and status outcomes.
