Family Members Policy
Malta's ex-gratia (discretionary) policy for family members, separate from Family Reunification.
The Family Members Policy is a Malta-specific, ex-gratia scheme that allows sponsors to bring family members before the 12-month waiting period required under the EU Family Reunification Directive.
It is entirely at Identità Malta's discretion and carries different conditions and thresholds than Family Reunification. The status granted is not a right — it can be withdrawn and does not automatically confer the same rights as residency under the Directive.
Important: The two policies are often confused. Family Reunification and the Family Members Policy are separate routes with different eligibility, requirements, and legal standing.
