Events in Malta

Malta's event calendar is densest in summer — village festas run every weekend from May to September, and major cultural and music events cluster in July and August. Here's how to find out what's actually on.

We don't maintain a live events calendar

Keeping a Malta events database accurate requires weekly updates we can't reliably commit to. Rather than publish stale listings, this page explains what kinds of events happen in Malta and directs you to official sources we trust. If you find an official source is out of date, the right fix is to check the event organiser's own website.

Village festas — the most dependable summer events

The biggest recurring event type in Malta is the village festa — a Catholic parish feast day with fireworks, processions, brass bands, and street food. There are around 67 parish festas across Malta and Gozo each year, running from late April through early October. On any given summer weekend, at least one village will be celebrating.

They're free to attend, atmospheric, and genuinely Maltese — not staged for tourists. Our separate guide explains what to expect and names some of the most notable ones.

Other regular event types

  • Isle of MTV

Free outdoor music festival at the Floriana Granaries — historically one of the largest free concerts in Europe. Usually July. Check the official Malta Tourism Authority site for the current year's status.

  • Malta International Fireworks Festival

Competitive fireworks display held at multiple sites around the Grand Harbour. Usually late April. If you're in Malta during this period it's worth attending.

  • Notte Bianca

Annual autumn night festival in Valletta — museums, galleries, and public buildings open late with cultural programming. Usually October. Organised by Arts Council Malta.

  • Marsaxlokk Sunday fish market

Not a ticketed event, but a weekly fixture every Sunday morning. Fresh fish from the boats, local produce, and street food in a waterfront fishing village. No admission.

  • Malta Jazz Festival

Three-night festival at the Valletta Waterfront (Ta' Liesse). Usually July. Ticketed. Features international headliners alongside Maltese performers.
