Tourism and Hospitality Skills Pass
What this is
A sector certificate linked to some tourism and hospitality jobs.
Who is involved: The Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS), which processes applications and provides training and assessments. Identità checks the certificate when one applies.
It may concern you if…
- A third-country national applying for a Single Permit to work in a tourism or hospitality establishment in Malta.
- Someone in a front-facing role, for example a waiter, bar staff or a hotel receptionist.
- A worker in the sector who asks about a longer permit at renewal.
It usually does not concern you if…
- Someone working outside tourism and hospitality.
- Some supporting roles in the sector, such as accounts, marketing or HR.
- Someone applying for a one-year renewal in tourism and hospitality.
Not sure?
Ask your employer first, because employers check certificates before a Single Permit application. Official pages differ on some roles, such as cleaners and kitchen porters. If your job is one of these, or is not clearly listed, ask the Skills Pass team at ITS. Have your job title and main duties ready. You do not have to share passport or ID numbers to ask a general question.

Role lists changed in January 2026, so compare an old page with the current one.
- Check an instruction
Repeat an instruction back to check you understood the next step.
- Confirm an appointment time
Confirm an interview booking so the day and time are clear.
What this page is not
MaltaPathway is independent. This page does not enrol you, collect fees, decide whether a programme applies to you, or predict results. The official provider decides.
